For the first time in 400 years, Indonesia's volcano Mount Sinaburg erupted for an unknown reason three times in one week. The nation of Indonesia had not experienced such an eruption for four centuries. On August 28, 2010, the history of this extraordinary volcano changed once more when the dormant volcano erupted sending dark clouds of smoke and ash into the sky. Ash clouds rose as much as 1500 meters into the skies above the volcano.

The Indonesian volcano is located in the North Sumatra province of Indonesia. The shocking occurrence of this volcanic eruption is something no one who lives in Indonesia has ever witness in their lifetime until 2010. On August 29, 2010, the formerly dormant volcano erupted for a second time sending even more black smoke into the sky. The second eruption came amid as many as 10,000 residents becoming homeless. Another eruption occurred on September 3, 2010, marking yet another episode for the once dormant volcano and nations' history.

In 2010, the world witnessed a number of natural disasters include volcanic eruption in nations such as Iceland and Guatemala. Cities like Guatemala City have been hit very hard by the aftermath of volcanic eruption. On May 27, the Pacaya volcano eruption rocked this poor nation to the core. The eruption took place 19 miles from the capital and left in its wake devastation and destruction. Thousands have lost their home as the nation continues to struggle through its recovery. Guatemala did not have an infrastructure in place to respond or cope with natural disasters of this gravity. Lacking an emergency infrastructure has further exasperated efforts and resources for the nation that was also hit by the tropical storm "Agatha" days later.

Several weeks before the Guatemalan eruption, Iceland experienced a series of eruption that ultimately affected the entire world. Airport travel had to be shut down temporarily when large black ash clouds formed in the skies above the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. The eruptions occurred in a region of Iceland that did not effect inhabited areas. Instead, the volcano caused havoc in the skies for international airlines, flights and travelers. The devastation that Guatemala and Indonesia are experiencing has taken its toll on human life and property to an astronomical extent. Both efforts and aid continues to pour into these countries most effected by volcanic eruptions. See video of the Guatemalan volcano and eruptions Eyjafjallajökull here.
